‘I’m sure he would’ve got rid of her,’ says sister-in-law of Palm Springs murder suspect

Justin Rey is currently behind bars in Kansas after authorities found him and his children in a storage unit with his wife’s dismembered body. Rey is now accused of murdering Palm Springs resident Sean Ty Ferel and stealing his car and credit cards.

It’s been a year and a half since the Palm Springs Police Department started their investigation into Rey, after Ferel was reported missing in May 2016.

Rey is being held in a Kansas jail on $1 million bail.

Sara Monteiro, is the sister of Jessica Rey, the now former wife of Justin Rey. She describes her sister as high-spirited.

“She could not see wrong in the world. no matter what,” Monteiro said.

Monteiro believes Justin is “100% responsible” for killing Jessica. She says the relationship between Jessica and Justin turned darker as the years went by.

“He’s threatened that he would kill her before and he’s also abandoned and left her on the streets before, and the 2-year-old,” Monteiro said.

Monteiro said Justin even threatened her once before.

“One of Justin’s main threats towards myself was, ‘I’ll murder you, chop you up, and feed you to pitbull,” Monteiro said.

About a month before officials filed an arrest warrant against Justin, Monteiro said she received a call about an upcoming court appearance in Arizona. That call led her to find out what authorities discovered about Justin and her sister in Kansas.

Now Monteiro says she hopes her once brother-in-law will face justice for her sister and Ferel.

“He’s already hurt another family like he has ours, and I just felt like they’re never going to find him,” Monteiro said. “If the storage unit hadn’t called on Justin, we would’ve never heard or seen from my sister again and I’m sure he would’ve got rid of her.”

Court documents allege Justin lied to police about Ferel, saying he originally dropped him off at a home in Menifee. However, people in that area said they never knew Ferel.
