Marijuana ‘Green Zones’ may be coming to Coachella

The city of Coachella is looking to create a “green zone” where marijuana dispensaries would be placed.

Mayor Steven Hernandez said it’s the next step for the city, now that the cultivation phase of the city’s plan has been laid out.

City leaders discussed the zoning plans at Wednesday night’s council meeting. say they’re looking at grapefruit boulevard as the operating zone for dispensaries.

Many say it’s an area that could use a boost — after the decline in the automotive businesses in the area

“We’re saying, let’s concentrate it in an area so that we can see that area redeveloped,” Mayor Hernandez said. “We have a unique opportunity to do this right, study it thoroughly and create a zone as opposed to putting it throughout the city.”

A final decision is scheduled to be made by the city on December 13.
