An Indio elementary school was placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon following a police pursuit near the area.

The pursuit for a wanted suspect began just before 2 p.m., the chase ended on Corregidor Avenue, when three people inside the car bailed out as it crashed into a private property wall, according to Indio police.

One suspect was immediately detained, while officers briefly searched for two other suspects.

Desert Sands Unified School District public information officer, Mary Perry, confirmed that Martin Van Buren Elementary School was placed on a brief lockdown to protect students while they searched the area for the outstanding suspects.

Eventually the two other suspects were detained.
