High-end shops, fine dining, art galleries – El Paseo has all the pieces of a successful tourist attraction, except, “We’re on the Rodeo Drive of the desert and we felt this was missing,” General Manager Gil Reyes said.
The ‘this’ he’s referring to is a hotel. Hotel Paseo. The City of Palm Desert confirms this is the first hotel ever on El Paseo.
“It’s exciting to be a part of something new and different and history,” Reyes said.
News Channel Three giving you the first look inside. Getting built right now: a spa, a pool, cabanas and cabana bar. Something unique about the hotel is the 150th room is a beautifully-restored 1950 Airstream trailer. Reyes says the goal was for this mid-century modern design hotel to feel very Coachella Valley.
“It’s a lifestyle hotel. Won’t be a hotel box standardized. One of the things we did was partner with great restaurateurs,” he said.
Local restaurateurs were brought in to create this spot. Andrew and Julianna Copley of Copley’s in Palm Springs and Tony Marchese of Trio in Palm Springs. They created AC3. This contemporary American restaurant will have both indoor and outdoor seating.
In the lobby, you’ll find walls of art, with a desert touch as well. “A couple local galleries were instrumental in bringing the vision of Hotel Paseo,” Reyes said.
Then when you walk out back – an outdoor area meant for entertainment.
“We’ll also have a stage. You can do both sides. We’ve contracted with local artists to play Thursdays and Fridays. Even during Coachella and big events we’ll bring someone in day to day,” Reyes added.
The hotel also plans to show movies outside as well.
“We want it to be not just a destination but somewhere people can come in and relax,” Reyes said.
Now, with this final piece to the El Paseo puzzle, “I think it’s going to bring a new energy and excitement to an area that’s been growing. I think this will be the glue that puts it all together.”
Hotel Paseo is set to open on El Paseo in January. You can make reservations now on HotelPaseo.com.
