Student Athlete of the Week – Alex Pimentel

Desert Mirage soccer star Alex Pimentel is arguably the top talent in our area and is looking to lead his Rams to another De Anza league championship and beyond.

STORY BY CODY KRUPP

Back in 2016 Desert Mirage hoisted the trophy as 26-0 undefeated CIF Champions.

“Those smiles they have right now are going to be internal, and that is what we work for. For me I will get a ring and put it in a drawer somewhere but for them they accomplished history.” Coach Peter Zamora said.

Alex Pimentel was just a sophomore already making huge impact for the Rams. Expecting an even bigger junior year until things changed.

“Come back and show the valley we still go it. Unfortunately I got injured and this year I am extra motivated.” Pimentel said.

Last year he eventually got back on the pitch was missing a step or two.

“Came in and won a league game against DHS, vs CV, but even then I had to monitor his play and limit his play.” Zamora said.

Now back to 100-percent so the valley better look out.

“Been making the comment that he is the best player in the valley. Seen him beat every school and that gives us a legitimate shot at winning CIF with that one player. He can single handedly beat teams.” Zamora added.

This senior captain has the talent to lead, the respect of his teammates, and the chip on his shoulder.

“It won’t come by itself. I have been there and know what it takes and try to make them feel what I feel. As a team move forward, if we don’t then we aren’t going to get anywhere.” Pimentel said.

Great in the classroom, a 3.6 GPA and hoping for a career in Kinesiology some day. It will all start right here at College of the Desert.

“Going to stay here at COD. I know the coaches, I have known them for a couple years and I trust them. They are good people” Pimentel finished.

So we are going to see plenty more of Pimentel right here in the desert.
