Two men accused of stealing purses on El Paseo

Two Desert Hot Springs men were arrested Monday for allegedly stealing purses from an outside patio at El Paseo in Palm Desert.

Officers responded to the 73000 block of El Paseo at 1:20 p.m. as a nearby security guard witnessed the theft, chased the suspects, and obtained a description of the suspects as well as a vehicle description.

Several minutes later, officers spotted the suspect vehicle near Magnesia Falls and Portola Avenue, Palm Desert.

The vehicle was stopped and two subjects matching the suspect description were detained. The suspects were identified as 23-year-old Grant Ewing and 18-year-old Shyheed Boyd.

The stolen property was recovered and returned to the victims.

Both suspects were booked into the county jail in Indio for grand theft, and conspiracy.

A parole hold was placed on Ewing after it was discovered he was on active parole for burglary.
