Palm Springs celebrates downtown revitalization

Palm Springs celebrated the opening of the downtown revitalization project Thursday evening.

The celebration happened in front of the new street facing the Palm Springs Art Museum.

Earlier in the day, the city held a couple of ribbon cuttings. One in front of the brand new Kimpton the Rowan Hotel, the newest hotel in the city. The other ribbon cutting taking place in front of the Starbucks reserve.

Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon said there are more exciting things to come.

“People are going to love the new stores that are coming in in January and February. All the rest of the downtown stores will be opening and there’s going to be like 8 new restaurants and all sorts of great stores,” Moon said.

The celebrations didn’t stop there, the city held a community concert featuring the Flusters and the Yip-Yops, as well as a 30-minute fireworks show.

The city says they’re finally seeing their revitalization project come to fruition as more shops open and that part of downtown becomes a destination.
