United Cerebral Palsy families celebrate the holidays
Sunday, dozens of special needs families gathered in La Quinta to celebrate the holidays at a party hosted by United Cerebral Palsy of the Inland Empire.
“It’s the highlight of our year for our families and the kids we serve and their friends. The kids, as you can see, love to be here, they love to dance and love to see Santa,” said Greg Wetmore, the president and CEO of UCP.
The organization’s mission, to advance the independence of people with disabilities.
“A lot of times people don’t know that they (special needs children) need acceptance and they need to feel just as much as everyone else does. They’re entitled to something like this. I think it’s great and my grandson looks forward to it and he’s a dancer, so he’s wanting to get out there and start dancing,” said Angie Bazan, grandmother to a special needs child.
More than 200 presents were distributed to families. The afternoon was filled with joy for the families served by UCP and staff who made it all possible.
“They get really excited when they see Santa and when they open their presents, so seeing all the happiness, makes my day,” UCP employee Sofia Campos said.
