Habitat for Humanity presents homes to veterans

A local organization made a dream a reality for two veterans and their families Wednesday afternoon.

Habitat for Humanity Coachella Valley presented two veterans with the keys to their own homes during a dedication ceremony in Palm Desert.

Thirty-four homes were built as part of a community effort and these were the first two for veterans.

“This is Habitat for Humanities of the Coachella Valley first Veteran Built and it was really a community effort. We had all kinds of organizations that came out and helped plant the front yards, paint the inside, help do all the getting ready,” said Patrick Swarthout, President of the HFHCV.

The houses were built in partnership with the city of palm desert and the Home Depot Foundation.
