Man killed after being struck by vehicle early Christmas morning

A man was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Bermuda Dunes early Christmas morning.

The incident happened just before 3 am near the intersection of Avenue 42 and Jamaica Sands.

According to a press release by the California Highway Patrol, the preliminary investigating revealed that the man, a 36-year-old from Indio, was walking on the #1 lane of westbound Avenue 42, just east of Jamaica Sands when he was struck by a vehicle. Evidence at the scene indicated that the man was highly intoxicated.

The people in the vehicle called the police, no arrests were made, according to CHP.

KESQ / CBS Local 2 has been in contact with the family, who has identified the victim as Ramon Contreras. He left behind a wife, a 14-year-old son and a one-year-old daughter. The Riverside County Coroner’s office later confirmed Contreras was indeed the victim.
