NRCC selects 16 candidates for first round of “Young Guns” program

The 36th Congressional District is listed as a target race for the NRCC.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) puts a spotlight on candidates in competitive districts in a program called “Young Guns”. In the first round of selections called “On the Radar” the NRCC picks candidates that have met certain benchmarks in their candidacy.

In this round candidate Kimberlin Brown Pelzer made the list. She is one of several Republican candidates looking to unseat Democrat Raul Ruiz. Other Republican candidates include Dan Ball, Robert Bentley, Doug Hassett and Stephan Wolkowicz.

NRCC Regional Spokesperson Jack Pandol says that this is not an endorsement but that these candidates have met certain fundraising benchmarks.

The second round of selection is called “Contender” and after the primary in June the NRCC puts out a list of “Young Guns” targeting certain races.
