Cal Fire reopens Whitewater Canyon, other trails

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors has approved the reopening of seven hiking areas closed due to hazardous fire conditions, effective Thursday, February 1st. The decision, made on January 23rd, came at the request of the newly named Riverside County Fire Chief, Daniel R. Talbot.

“I encourage you to visit these beautiful hiking trails throughout Riverside County and would like to remind residents and visitors in Riverside County that we live in a very wildfire-prone area,” stated Talbot via news release. “We are experiencing unseasonably warm, dry conditions which increases fire danger. Please be fire safe.”

The trails which will be reopened are as follows:

Whitewater Canyon in Cabazon North Mountain and Indian Canyon in the San Jacinto area Nuevo/Lakeview, East of Menifee Rd. and San Jacinto Ave. Reinhardt Canyon in Hemet Ramona Bowl and Bautista Canyon in Southeast Hemet Avery Canyon in Hemet Minto in Sage

For more information on what hiking areas are open to the public, contact the Cal Fire Public Affairs Bureau at 951-940-6985.
