Exclusive: Family shares details of victim in mother-son burn case

The arraignment of Israel Ramirez-Guardado, the man accused of setting his mother on fire in the loading dock area of the Indio Mathis Brothers, is being postponed until tomorrow. The victim has been identified as 61-year old Francisca Ramirez, according to official court documents.

On Friday morning, Israel Ramirez-Guardado allegedly drove to the Indio Mathis Brothers, Francisca Ramirez’s place of business, and doused her with flammable liquid and ignited it. She then suffered from burns to 50 percent of her body, mostly concentrated to her upper body. Following the alleged crime, Ramirez-Guardado went directly to Indio Jail to confess and turn himself in.

Francisca Ramirez is currently at the Arrowhead Burn Center in Colton where she is still in critical condition.

Guardado had been “living out of his car” and has links to the states of Florida and Utah. According to the investigation, he came to Indio with the purpose of “settling matters” with family members which included his mother. To assure the victim’s safety and the suspect’s court appearance no bail is being requested.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Francisca.

“A loving mother, grandmother, wife and sister has suffered a very tragic accident,” the campaign description reads “This accident has placed Francisca in the hospital and her family is in need of financial assistance, any donations would be greatly appreciated.”
