Student Athlete of the Week – Angie Inprom

Angie Inprom’s story cannot be made up. The first-year wrestler has helped lead the Lady Lions to their first league title in wrestling program history.

“There is a thrill about it that I think some people need to find and for me this is it.” Student athlete of the week Angela Inprom said.

All it took was finding the push.

“Being on the wrestling team, I didn’t really consider that as something I would end up doing but he kept pushing and offering these opportunities and eventually I gave in.” Inprom said on her decision to go out for the sport.

“I guaranteed her that if she was a wrestler she would make it to CIF her first year.” Head Coach Jody Davis said.

Pin by pin, and then some more pins later she became the school’s pin record holder but it’s not been as easy as she makes it look.

“I was pretty far behind, had to start from scratch but he was patient enough to teach me and get me caught up with the rest. My team too, they were nice enough to help me along the way and they are still helping me and pushing me to be a better person.” Inprom said of the transition to the sport.

“We all just help each other out. We are like one big family, we push each other, all of us, we all have helped her out and she has helped us out. We are one big family.” Senior captain Britney Garnica said.

Her talents don’t just stop on the mat, a 4.4 GPA with an artist’s touch.

“I like T-shirt design, poster design. I have done contests and got first place in the Palm Springs Animation Festival poster.” Inprom said.

Inprom and her Lion’s squad are certainly going to be a push for others to get out and try something new cause you never know where it can take you.

“Especially since we just won DVL, I feel like it is going to inspire a lot of people to join wrestling or even consider doing a sport next year. I’m hoping this program will get bigger.” Inprom said.

Next fall it has taken Angela Inprom to the northwest where she is going to continue her wrestling career in college.
