KUNA, La Poderosa host St. Jude cancer charity radiothon

The phones are abuzz in Thousand Palms. That’s because Kunamundo 15 and KUNA, La Poderosa 96.7 FM radio are hosting their 19th annual St. Jude Radiothon to raise money to help fight pediatric cancer.

Last year, the event raised $84,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. The hospital, which opened in 1962, provides cost-free care to families, “because all a family should worry about is helping their child live,” according to release from the charity.

The Coachella Valley community will hear stories about families who are helped by St. Jude Hospital. Most of the funding for the hospital comes from contributions.

You can become Ángeles de Esperanza or Angels of Hope by donating $20 a month.

In the telethon’s 19 year history with the local stations, over 2.5 million dollars have been raised.

Donations can be made by calling 1-800-626-8432 or by visiting stjude.org/radio/KUNA

The two-day radiothon runs from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 22 and Friday, February 23.

In March, the Warburton Celebrity Golf Tournament and related events will help raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The three-day event is hosted by actor Patrick Warburton, known for numerous TV and movie roles. The event runs the weekend of March 1 and plays host to celebrities, songwriters, and rock legends. In its seven years of existence, the event has raised $7,300,000.
