Local classroom get $500 for electronic reading program

Our January One Class At A Time award goes to Mr. Cabanting’s ‘Read With Me’ program at Las Palmitas Elementary School in Thermal.

Students use a program on iPads to learn to read, but when they’re all on at the same time, replying to prompts, it can get loud.

Now with this 500 dollars from the Walter Clark Legal Group, “Going to buy headphones. The students lack attention and focus and are easily distracted,” Cabanting said.

“Now we can concentrate. If we don’t have earphone and hear their iPads, it’s important for us to concentrate,” sixth grader Mario Hernandez said.

This education is crucial for many reasons.

“Ninety percent of our school is English learners, so they’re not just learning they’re also learning the language,” he added.

“Kids have to learn to read and th equipment will make it that much easier and we are delighted to be helping with it,” Walter Clark of Walter Clark Legal Group said.
