Driver arrested for suspected DUI in fatal wreck

Update – 5:10 p.m.:

According to the California Highway Patrol, all three injured were occupants of the same vehicle. Their vehicle ran off the right side of the road and struck a palm tree.

The driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Marco Antonio Alvarez of Desert Hot Springs, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, according to CHP.

A man who was severely injured in a wreck that also seriously injured two others in unincorporated Desert Hot Springs died in a hospital today.

Raymond Morin, 25, of Desert Hot Springs was seriously injured in a crash that occurred just before 7 p.m. Tuesday on Dillon Road, west of Bennett Road, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

He and two other crash victims were hospitalized with major injuries, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Tawny Cabral said, in a crash that also had fire crews cutting at least one of the injured victims out of the wreckage.

Morin was pronounced dead at 10:13 a.m. Wednesday at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, the coroner’s office reported.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation by the California Highway Patrol’s Indio office.
