Idyllwild meeting to address flood concerns canceled
UPDATE 3:53 PM: Tonight’s meeting has been canceled due to weather conditions.
Idywllwild was set to gather together along with representatives from various Riverside County agencies and partners to discuss risks of flooding, mudflows, and debris flows following the Cranston Fire.
The meeting was going to be held at 6PM at the Idyllwild School Gym at 26700 Highway 243 in Idyllwild. The issues are risks posed are certainly at the forefront of mountain residents’ minds.
“This year if we get a typical Winter here, it could be a real mess. It could be a real mess,” David Juhasz, a local resident told KESQ & CBS Local 2’s Katie Widner earlier this week.
The dangers are real, and the area has already experienced its fair share of scares since the Cranston Fire flames were finally doused. Over the past two days, storm conditions prompted extensive road closures and evacuations in the Cranston Fire-affected areas.
Resident or not, anyone passing through the area should keep their wits about them for the foreseeable future, especially during extreme weather conditions.
“Trying to keep that awareness in the drivers’ minds that we may see some significant erosion and movement for the next couple of years,” said public information officer for CalTrans District 8 Shelli Lombardo.
