Beaumont man arrested for allegedly stealing chainsaw & climbing gear
Authorities today announced the arrest of a Beaumont man who allegedly stole chainsaws and climbing gear from a tree trimming company vehicle more than a year and a half ago, then pawned off some of the equipment.
Daniel Ponce, 50, is accused of breaking into a vehicle belonging to the Pacific Slope Tree Co. while it was parked at the Barton Flats Campground in Angelus Oaks, north of Yucaipa in the San Bernardino National Forest, on April 26, 2017.
San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies got word in November 2017 that Ponce had pawned two chainsaws that he allegedly stole from the vehicle, but were unable to locate him.
“The case was eventually placed into an inactive status, pending new leads,” according to the Yucaipa sheriff’s station.
Unspecified new leads regarding his whereabouts led to his arrest Thursday at a Beaumont residence, where deputies found additional items allegedly stolen during the burglary.
