Pedestrian dies after being struck by train near Thermal

A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a train in an unincorporated area of the Coachella Valley between Mecca and Thermal.

The incident, which was reported at 11:11 a.m., happened near the intersection of Avenue 62 and Grapefruit Boulevard.

Firefighters responded to the scene and discovered one victim, who perished at the scene.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department are on scene investigating.
