Palm Drive in DHS reopens after crash-related closure

UPDATE 11:55 a.m.: After an extended closure, Palm Drive in Desert Hot Spring has reopened.

The roadway was initially closed due to a collision between a tow truck and pickup truck that left one of the drivers with major injuries. The road was initially projected to reopen at 9:30 a.m. It was officially open as of 11:55 a.m., according to the Desert Hot Springs Police Department.

The crash and subsequent closure affected Northbound Palm Drive and caused extensive delays in the area.

A major crash was causing traffic delays in Desert Hot Springs Monday morning.

Palm Drive was closed to all traffic northbound between Camino Aventura and Camino Campanero.

Officials were asking the public to avoid the area until the scene is clear. The road was expected to be closed until approximately 9:30 a.m.

Desert Hot Springs Police said a collision involving a pickup truck and a tow truck happened on Palm Drive at Camino Campesino at approximately 3:15 a.m.

Palm Drive’s southbound traffic lanes were open to traffic.

Police said one person suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police say expect the lanes to be shut down for a few hours.
