Wig-wearing thief identified as suspect in local bank robbery

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed the man arrested for an armed robbery at an Indio Circle K earlier this week is the same suspect in a bank robbery in Thousand Palms earlier this month.

Curtis Dixon, 39, of Indio was arrested early Tuesday morning in connection to an armed robbery at the Circle K on 82061 Avenue 42. According to the Indio Police Department, Dixon entered the store wearing a blonde wig, armed with a handgun, and demanded money from the cash register and cigarettes. He fled the store in a black Ford F-150 crew cab.

Officers gathered information at the scene, which led them to the 44700 block of King Street in Indio. At that location, officers found the suspect vehicle in front of an apartment complex. Officers made contact with Dixon and after a few hours, he surrendered to police. While in police custody, Dixon admitted to other robberies within the city.

Less than 5 minutes prior to the Circle K robbery, deputies say another blonde wig bandit attempted to rob the AM/PM on Varner Road and Washington Street.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department never revealed whether both crimes were related, however, on Friday night, they confirmed that Dixon was identified as the suspect in recent robberies throughout the Coachella Valley, including a bank robbery in Thousand Palms.

The bank robbery in question occurred on Friday, August 9, at approximately 4:15 p.m., a man robbed the Rabobank on 72885 Ramon Road. Few details have been revealed about this robbery, Deputy Mike Vasquez said the thief ran off with an undisclosed amount of money. No weapon was seen during the robbery.

Dixon remains in custody at Indio Jail on $355,000 bail.
