Authorities: Guns and drugs found during probation check of convicted felon

Deputies found a pair of guns, drug paraphernalia and what was believed to be methamphetamine during a probation compliance check in Palm Desert Friday morning.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, at approximately 11:03 a.m., officers from the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force were conducting a probation check a house in the 74000 block of Goleta Avenue. During the probation check, officers saw Brandon Forero, 25, of Palm Desert, attempting to flee through the backyard with a rifle case.

Officers detained Ferero and found he was in possession of a .22-caliber rifle. Deputies searched his vehicle and found a loaded .38-caliber revolver. They also found drug paraphernalia and suspected methamphetamine in his possession.

Ferero was arrested and transported to the Indio jail on suspicion for being a felon in possession of firearms, possession of narcotics with a firearm and violation of probation.
