Police investigating Sunday night shooting in Desert Hot Springs

UPDATE: Desert Hot Springs police still on scene Monday morning confirmed to News Channel 3 that a shooting took place in the parking lot behind Super Liquor Store, located on the corner of Palm Dr. and Buena Vista Ave.
As of 5:30 a.m. Monday morning, the parking lot was still closed off with crime tape as investigators were speaking with people in the parking lot. A biohazard team was working to clear the scene.
A News Channel 3 photographer on scene Sunday night reported a body covered on the ground. It is not known whether it was a woman or a man. Police on scene say they'll release more information on the incident on Monday. If police confirm this was a deadly shooting, it would be the third homicide in Desert Hot Springs so far this year, and the second this month. A man was shot and killed last Tuesday night less than a mile away from this scene. Neighbors have reported hearing gunshots in the days following.
Desert Hot Springs Police Chief Jim Henson said last week they are investigating whether or not the series of shootings are gang-related. Anyone with any additional information is urged to contact the department.
