Coachella Valley residents can receive up to $150 by replacing their washing machines and water pumps with more efficient models.

The Coachella Valley Water District is rolling out two new rebate programs for customers who make the switch to high-efficiency washing machines and hot water recirculating pumps.

"We are excited to offer these new programs to our customers to increase their efficiency," said Katie Evans, the CVWD's director of communications and conservation. "Many of our customers have already taken advantage of all of our existing programs and we pleased to offer them another way to reduce their use and help our community reach our sustainability goals."

High-efficiency washing machines use on average about 25% less energy and 33% less water than regular machines. Qualifying machines must be Energy Star certified and have a water factor of 4.5 or less. The district is offering a rebate of up to $150 for customers to switch to eligible machine models, which are listed at www.energystar.gov.

Hot water recirculating pumps save water and energy by reducing the wait time for hot water to arrive at the faucet or shower. The district is offering a rebate of up to $125 for customers who install the pumps, which return unused hot water back to the water heater.

The rebates are not for new construction.

Applications for the rebate programs are available online at www.cvwd.org/rebates or they can be picked up at CVWD's Water Management Office, 75-525 Hovley Lane, Palm Desert.
