Second inmate in Riverside County jail system dies of coronavirus

RIVERSIDE COUNTY SHERIFF
KESQ

The inmate was booked into custody just last month.

On April 6th, he was transported to a local area hospital where he received treatment for a pre-existing medical condition. While at the hospital, he developed flu-like symptoms and was given a test for coronavirus. On April 15th, he tested positive.

Earlier tonight, that inmate passed away while at the hospital from what appears to be complications from his pre-existing medical condition, possibly exasperated by coronavirus.

The exact cause of death has not yet been determined.

The inmate's identification will not be released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
