Minnesota Officer arrested and charged in death of George Floyd
UPDATE: A Minnesota prosecutor has charged a police officer with third-degree murder and manslaughter in the restraint death of George Floyd.
EARLIER: Minnesota authorities have confirmed to the Associated Press that the Police officer who knelt on George Floyd has been arrested.
This arrest comes after escalating violence in Minnesota with protestors setting fire to a police precinct overnight. This is the same precinct where the four Officers that were involved in the death of George Floyd worked. The four have since been fired.
The Mayor of Minneapolis ordered the building evacuated and allowed the building to burn.
"The symbolism of a building cannot outweigh the importance of life, of our officers, or the public. We could not risk serious injury to anyone." Said Mayor Frey.
There has been widespread looting in Minnesota and protests in cities across the county.
