Sheriff Department decides to leave barricaded suspect alone in home after stand-off

A suspect wanted on a felony warrant was allowed to remain in their home Thursday after a two hour stand-off in Thousand Palms.

Just before noon, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff Department responded to a residence in the 31-000 block of Las Flores Way in Thousand Palms. The Sheriff's Department says a subject wanted on a felony warrant for his arrest refused to exit the home.

"Multiple deputies responded and surrounded the suspect’s residence in an attempt to negotiate with him," says Sergeant Brandi Swan, a spokesperson for the Sheriff Department. "The suspect refused to exit and after about two hours, deputies confirmed the suspect was alone inside and not a danger to anyone else. Deputies left the location and will attempt to contact the suspect at a later time."

During the negotiations there were dozens of police officers in the area and several roadways were shut down to keep the public safe during the operation. The Sheriff's Department cleared the scene just before 2:30 pm and opened the roads a short time before.
