One person dead, multiple others injured after explosion at Ohio metal manufacturing plant

One person is dead and a dozen others were injured after a metal factory in Bedford, Ohio exploded Monday afternoon, following an unknown incident, according to WJW Fox 8 in Cleveland.

At least 13 people were hospitalized following the explosion, with one in critical condition, the Oakwood Village Fire Department previously confirmed. At least one of the injured people was in critical condition.

Video from the news helicopter shows a fire and large plum of smoke coming from the building as well as several vehicles under debris.

A Fire Captain said he saw burn victims on the scene and that at least one person had to be pulled from the rubble.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

I. Schumann and Co., the company that operate the facility, released a statement:

An explosion of unknown origin struck our Bedford, Ohio facility today resulting in injuries to employees and significant damage to the facility. Our efforts now are focused on supporting the first responders who came on scene quickly to help our employees. The safety and health of our employees is our top priority and we commit to ensuring they receive the medical care they need. We will work alongside investigators in their search for answers as part of our commitment to Northeast Ohio where we have been operating for more than 100 years. Our thoughts and prayers are with our team members and their families at this difficult time.
