UN approves resolution calling for Russia to leave Ukraine

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The U.N. General Assembly has passed a nonbinding resolution that calls for Russia to end hostilities and withdraw from its neighbor on the eve of the first anniversary of Moscow’s invasion. The resolution, which passed Thursday on a vote of 141-7 with 32 abstentions, sent a strong message that Russia’s aggression must end. Foreign ministers from more than a dozen European nations and Japan during two days of debate called for support for the resolution that upholds Ukraine’s territorial integrity. The war, which began on Feb. 24, 2022, has killed tens of thousands on both sides and has reduced entire Ukrainian cities to ruins.
