Police shoot, kill dog after it attacked an officer in Desert Hot Springs, authorities say
Police shot and killed a dog after it attacked an officer in Desert Hot Springs on Tuesday, the department confirmed to News Channel 3.
A viewer told News Channel 3 that the incident happened in the area of West and 16th Street.
According to DHSPD spokesperson Doria Wilms, officers responded to a desert lot to assist Animal Control with the removal of a vicious dog.
"During the removal, a separate dog escaped from a makeshift enclosure and attacked an Officer," Wilms wrote in an email to News Channel 3.
The dog was shot and killed. Wilms confirmed that the officer was okay.
The incident is under investigation.
