Firebirds beat Condors, 4-2 in Bakersfield

The Coachella Valley Firebirds took the ice in Bakersfield against the Condors.

It was a strong start for the Birds in the first period. Shane Wright got the puck in the net five minutes into the game. Tucker Robertson followed behind, snagging his first AHL goal ever.

Things got a little fuzzy in the second period. A teddy bear toss delayed game play. Condor's Matvey Petrov scored his first career goal, sending bears flying on the ice. This is a fun and charitable tradition in hockey around this time of year. Whenever the home team scores their first goal of the game, fans are encouraged to toss teddies onto the ice. These stuffed animals will be donated to the United Way of Kern County and distributed to local organizations.

Once the bears were cleared off the ice, Bakersfield tied things up, making for an exciting start to the third period.

Kole Lind swooped in on the power play with 6:15 left on the clock to give the Birds the lead. Captain Max McCormick put in one more puck for good measure with one minute left in the game. 4-2, final.
