Colman Domingo to receive Spotlight Actor Award at Palm Springs Film Festival
The Palm Springs International Film Awards is presenting Colman Domingo with the Spotlight Award, Actor for his performance in the film ‘Rustin.’
The festival’s chairman, Nachhattar Singh Chandi, describes the Emmy award winning actor’s performance as the civil rights activist Bayard Rustin as “career defining.”
The film chronicles the life of Bayard Rustin who, along with other major players in the Civil Rights Movement like Martin Luther King Jr., Adam Clayton Powell Jr., and Ella Baker, organized the 1963 March on Washington.
The Tony award nominated actor’s credits also include: If Beale Street Could Talk, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, The Butler, Selma, Lincoln, The Birth of a Nation and Lucy in the Sky.
Domingo is amongst the festival’s previously announced awardees: Emma Stone (Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress), Cillian Murphy (Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Breakthrough Performance Award), Greta Gerwig (Director of the Year), Jeffrey Wright (Career Achievement Award), Carey Mulligan (International Star Award, Actress) and Killers of the Flower Moon (Vanguard Award).
The Palm Springs Festival will take place starting January 4. Through January 15. at the Palm Springs Convention Center.
