PSPD Chief shares tips to protect your holiday purchases

The holiday shopping season is underway and local police want to make sure your gifts make it under the tree and not in the wrong hands.

News Channel 3's Peter Daut spoke with Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills who said this time of year there's an increase in vehicle break-ins and package thefts and that's why it's important to be vigilant.

Mills says to keep purchases out of sight while they're inside your car and avoid carrying large amounts of cash that can be stolen or dropped.

If you have packages delivered to your door and you know you won't be home, ask a trusted neighbor to pick them up right after they arrive.

Shoppers should also park in well-lit areas and be aware of their surroundings.
