World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler headlines strong field, favorite to win this week’s American Express

The world's best player, Scottie Scheffler, will headline the field at this week's American Express in La Quinta.

"Wherever I sit at in the world rankings, it doesn't really affect how I'm going to play this week. I'm still going out and trying to play good and win the tournament," said Scheffler.

The 27-year-old is making his fifth straight start in the desert and acknowledges it's a good place to begin the year.

"It's a good gauge. It's a good practice week. It's a fun event to come play and compete, and I mean, it's like ten degrees where I live right now, so it's kind of nice to be out here."

The 2022 Masters champion and 2023 Players champion will be paired with fellow top-10 American player Patrick Cantlay for the first three rounds of play.

Scheffler is a 5-1 favorite to win this week and looking for his seventh career victory on the PGA TOUR.
