20-year-old Compton woman killed in car crash in Coachella

A 20-year-old woman from Compton was killed in a car crash Wednesday night in Coachella.

The crash was reported at around 9:00 p.m. near the Spotlight 29 Casino.

California Highway Patrol Officer David Torres told News Channel 3 the woman was driving a Nissan Sentra westbound on Dillon Road. She collided into a guard rail and overturned into the nearby canal.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified as Yennifer Mayen-Jimenez of Compton.

CHP closed 48th Ave and Dillon Road to extract the vehicle from the canal.

The circumstances that led to the crash remain unclear.
