International cheer competition brings hundreds of teams to Palm Springs

A major international cheer competition is bringing in hundreds of teams from around the country.

The annual "Duel in the Desert" championship competition was held inside the Palm Springs Convention Center.

It’s the Grand Nationals event for all ages put on by Varsity Spirits Sports.

We spoke to some cheerleaders and their parents who came all the way from Dallas to compete.

“We're feeling great energy," said Laila David with the Thundercats Cheer Athletics program. "We're excited to go to rewards and see what we get. And if we don't win, we'll still be grateful and cheer for other teams."

We found out other teams came as far as Florida and South Carolina to compete.

The first place prizes will be given to the top teams Sunday night at 8 p.m.
