Imperial Irrigation District to offer public information workshops

The Imperial Irrigation District will offer several public information workshops starting next week in the Imperial and Coachella Valleys for customers to learn about the positive changes to their energy bills this year.
"In an effort to help shield consumers from spiking summer energy bills, the IID Board of Directors moved to reform the monthly (Energy Cost Adjustment), leveling these charges throughout 2024,'' IID officials wrote in a statement. "As an additional way to mitigate billing spikes, the district is also in the process of transitioning nearly 12,000 customers enrolled in REAP to the Average Bill Payment Plan.''
Presentations in English and Spanish will get underway at 4 p.m. each day starting Feb. 20 in Calexico, IID officials said. They will continue Feb. 21 in El Centro, Feb. 22, in Brawley, Feb. 26 in Mecca, Feb. 27 in La Quinta, and Feb. 29 in Indio.
The presentations in El Centro and La Quinta will also be available by livestream and playback at iid.com.
Attendees can expect to hear about the changes to the energy bill structure, updated information on the utility's Average Bill Payment Plan and Residential Assistance Program, and tips to read their energy bill, according to IID officials.
"Some very important, positive changes are in the works for 2024,'' IID General Manager Jamie Asburya said in a statement. "The district is working hard to make these changes and, through the public workshops, we hope to be able to connect with more customers, sharing helpful information."
The IID provides electricity to more than 150,000 customers in parts of Riverside and San Diego counties, and all of Imperial County.
