City of Desert Hot Springs votes to lower cannabis cultivation tax

Desert Hot Springs approved a permanent cannabis cultivation tax rate reduction for local business owners.

During their Tuesday meeting, the city council voted to lower the tax rate from $10.20 per square foot to $5.75 per square foot of space used for cultivation.

According to Deputy City Manager, Doria Wilms, the decision to cut the tax rate was made to alleviate the financial challenges that local cannabis business owners are facing.

News Channel 3’s Tatum Larsen spoke with city leaders and cannabis business owners for more on the new ordinance.
