Palm Springs police union reverses course and endorses Will Rollins for congress
The Palm Springs Police Officers Association has endorsed Democrat Will Rollins for California's 41st Congressional District.
The announcement was made at a press conference in front of the Palm Springs police department on S. Civic Dr. Tuesday morning.
"As a federal prosecutor, Will has has an accomplished career in law enforcement and Will shares our perspective for the leading role police officers take on every day in protecting communities, businesses, homes, and people," according to Mike Torres, Vice President of the Palm Springs Police Officers Association.
Rollins is once again vying for incumbent Republican Representative Ken Calvert's seat, which represents Corona down to lake Elsinore, and all the way to encompass Palm Springs and La Quinta.
During the 2022 election, Calvert claimed victory by 11,100 votes. Leading up to that election, the Palm Springs Police Officers Association threw its support behind Calvert, who was first elected in 1992, and is the longest-serving Republican in the California congressional delegation.
News Channel 3 obtained the following statement from Congressman Ken Calvert's campaign spokesman:
“Ken Calvert is the only candidate in this race who supports repealing Prop 47, which has unleashed havoc on our streets, and the Prop 47 reform initiative on the ballot this November. “If voters care about rising crime in November the two most important votes they can cast are for Ken Calvert and to fix Prop 47. Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco and District Attorney Mike Hestrin, along with virtually every law enforcement organization in the district, have put their support behind Congressman Calvert because they know they can count on him to keep us safe.”
Calvin Moore, Calvert campaign spokesman
Meanwhile, Congressman Calvert has secured the endorsement of the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC), the largest law enforcement organization in California representing representing over 80,000 public safety officers.
"Ken Calvert has consistently championed public safety and the law enforcement community in Congress. His dedication to ensuring peace officers have the resources and support needed to safeguard our communities is unmatched. We proudly stand with Congressman Calvert, confident in his ability to continue prioritizing public safety in Washington. “This endorsement reaffirms the shared commitment to keeping our communities safe."
Brian R Marvel, president of PORAC
