Gene Autry Trail reopens while N. Indian Canyon Dr. remains closed Monday

PSPD officials shared that Gene Autry at the wash is now open.

Meantime, North Indian Canyon Drive at the wash remains closed.

Alternate routes include Vista Chino, Ramon Road, Dinah Shore Dr., and Highway 111.

Gene Autry Trail was closed to traffic along with N. Indian Canyon Drive due to sand and low visibility on Friday morning.

Vista Chino Road was still open to traffic despite high winds.

Update - 5/24/24 4:15 AM

Construction crews were repairing the wash road Thursday and reduced Vista Chino down to one lane each way, causing back up from Gene Autry Trail to Landau Blvd.

Drivers were advised to account for more time to get to their destination. Alternate routes also include Ramon Road, Dinah Shore Dr., and Highway 111 in and out of Palm Springs.

Update - 5/22/24 9:10 PM

N Indian Canyon was closed once again just after 9:00 PM Wednesday due to sand buildup.


Update - 5/22/24 4:00 PM

N. Indian Canyon Drive was reopened Wednesday at around 4:00 PM.


The drive in and out of Palm Springs was expected to improve Tuesday afternoon as two of the three major Whitewater wash crossings were open again to traffic.

Vista Chino was reopened to traffic as of 7:30 a.m. Monday and N. Gene Autry Trail reopened Tuesday morning at 10:35 a.m., but North Indian Canyon Drive remained closed.

Alternate routes in and out of Palm Springs include Highway 111, Ramon Road, and Dinah Shore Drive.

Drivers should expect extra congestion on alternate routes and give themselves additional time to get where they're going.
