College of the Desert welcomes the class of 2024

College of the Desert held its 2024 commencement ceremony at Acrisure Arena for the second year in a row.

After years of hard work, hundreds of graduating COD students walked across the stage to receive their diplomas.

“Being first generation really put that into my mind. And I kept going and going and going and did it for my family," said Lesley Baza.

COD graduate, Lesley Baza, said she wants to serve as an example for other first-generation students.

“Don't give up. You're going to want to just keep pushing. I mean, I tried giving up and I cried. But here I am," said Baza.

Zachariah Perez, who has dreams of becoming a network sportscaster, said he is ready to get out of his comfort zone to achieve his goals.

“When I first started off here, I had thought of dropping out and, you know, not continuing my education. But, I kept my mind and sat on the goal and the mission and ultimately accomplished it here today.”
