IID: Digging contractor blamed for power Indio power outage

The Imperial Irrigation District said a power outage involving more than 800 customers Wednesday morning was caused by a digging contractor whose equipment made contact with transmission lines.

There was no immediate word on an estimated restoration time for all customers but 135 customers had their service restored by 10:26 a.m.

679 customers were still without lights and air conditioning in Indio.

A line crew was en route as of 10:26 a.m.

814 customers were initially impacted by the outage, according to IID.
