Idaho inmate gets life sentence for escaping state custody at Boise hospital

Associated Press

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho inmate received a life sentence for escaping state custody at a Boise hospital after the corrections officers guarding him were violently attacked. Skylar Meade earlier pleaded guilty to the escape and to sentencing enhancements for causing bodily injury and being a persistent violator. The district judge also sentenced him to another five years for possession of a controlled substance and having contraband in a prison. Meade was being taken back to prison from a hospital when prosecutors say an accomplice opened fire on guards. The two men escaped but were arrested about 36 hours later.
