Watch: Palm Springs Fire Dept. hosts 9/11 memorial event

You can watch the event live below:

The Palm Springs Fire Department hosted a public memorial ceremony to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

The ceremony started at 8:30 a.m. at Palm Springs Fire Station 2. Palm Springs Honor Guard kicked off the ceremony. It was followed by a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., which is when the first hijacked plane struck the North Tower (east coast time).

Fire Chief Paul Alvarado delivered some words of remembrance. The Palm Springs Air Museum Pipes and Drums band performed a tribute afterward.

The event started later as officials invited the community to attend and connect with firefighters over free coffee and donuts.
