BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — A lawyer for a mentally ill man who killed 10 people at a Colorado supermarket in 2021 says insanity is the only explanation for the mass shooting. Kathryn Herold’s comments came Friday during closing arguments in the trial of Ahmad Alissa. She played a video in which Alissa said he thought the voices he heard in his head might stop if he committed a mass shooting. He has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Prosecutors, meanwhile, say Alissa carefully amassed the guns and ammunition to kill as many people as possible, showing he knew what he was doing and was sane.
