Hurricane Isaac and Tropical Storm Joyce get stronger in the Atlantic, far from land

MIAMI (AP) — Hurricane Isaac and Tropical Storm Joyce are both far from land but getting stronger in the Atlantic Ocean. The National Hurricane Center says there are no coastal watches or warnings for either storm Friday. But swells from Isaac could contribute to life-threatening surf and rip current conditions by the weekend in the Azores, west of Portugal. Isaac is a Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds around 85 mph. It is located about a thousand miles west of the Azores. Tropical Storm Joyce is about 1,250 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands. Both systems are expected to strengthen more before weakening early next week.
