Governor Newsom signs $2.5 billion in wildfire relief package

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed legislation providing $2.5 billion in relief funds to support recovery from the deadly wildfires that ravaged Pacific Palisades and Altadena.
Newsom said the money will be "made available immediately'' and will help cover "ongoing operations, disaster recovery, debris removal, work on logistics, traffic management, address all the myriad of issues that we're facing in real time."
Lawmakers passed the set of bills Thursday morning intended to help fast-track $2.5 billion in and state and local funds to support wildfire relief efforts. The bills were passed unanimously by the House and Senate
The funds are provided through the states general fund and will be used to bolster the emergency response in communities still burning. Funding will also help rebuild schools in districts devastated by the recent string string of wildfires that have been the most destructive in Golden State history.
