Desert Hot Springs checkpoint results in three DUI arrests, 25 citations

DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) - Authorities arrested three people on suspicion of driving under the influence at a DUI checkpoint, the Desert Hot Springs Police Department announced today.
The checkpoint was held from 6 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday at a location with notable data patterns of impaired driving-related crashes in the city, according to the department.
In addition to the aforementioned arrests, officers also arrested four drivers with a suspended or revoked license and issued 25 citations for driving unlicensed.
The next checkpoint will be held in June, police said.
Impaired driving includes driving under the influence of alcohol, marijuana and some prescription medication and over-the-counter drugs.
A first-time DUI charge could cost drivers about $13,500 in fines and penalties, according to police. Impaired drivers could also have their license suspended.
