Lifekind Foundation seeks volunteers, donors to help in its ‘Thanksgiving Basket Initiative’

COACHELLA VALLEY, Calif. (KESQ) - Right now, an estimated one in eight households in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties experience food insecurity, with rates expected to climb even higher during the current government shutdown.

And now, the Lifekind Foundation is trying to serve a thousand local families through its "Thanksgiving Basket Initiative."

The Foundation is actively recruiting volunteers and donors to make the initiative possible.

Local families in need will receive a free basket containing a full Thanksgiving meal, in addition to receiving information on healthcare support.

The goal is for the initiative to be an entry point for families to receive important resources.

Lifekind Foundation Volunteer Caelen Phillips says, "We're really keen to make sure that we feed as many families as we possibly can this year, and alleviate any fears around Thanksgiving. And giving families the opportunity to have that connection and share that Thanksgiving meal."

A gift of $150 provides a complete Thanksgiving basket for one family, but all donation amounts are welcome.

News Channel 3's Peter Daut spoke with Phillips to get more information about the initiative and how you can help with your time and/or donation.
